General (Upper, Forward caste): Koli caste are categorised as General (Upper caste, Forward Caste) in the Union Territory of Ladakh and the Jammu and Kashmir union territory by Government of India. There are no reservation for Koli caste.
Other Backward Class (OBC): Koli caste are categorised as a Other Backward Class by Government of India in the Indian states and Union territories of Gujarat, Daman and Diu, Maharashtra, Goa, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Telangana and Karnataka.
Schedule caste (SC): Koli caste are categorised as Scheduled Caste in the Indian states of Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi.
Scheduled tribe: Some of the Kolis are categorised as Scheduled tribe by Government of India. Malhar Kolis and Mahadev Kolis are categorised as Scheduled tribe in Maharashtra, Tokre Kolis also known as Dhor Kolis are categorised as Scheduled tribe in Karnataka.
