Dr. Ganesh Baraiya is a 25-year-old Indian doctor from Koli caste of Bhavnagar, Gujarat, standing 3 feet tall with 72% locomotor disability due to dwarfism.
He cleared NEET in 2018 under the disabled quota but was denied MBBS admission by the Medical Council of India over height concerns. After losing in Gujarat High Court, he won in the Supreme Court in 2019, joining Bhavnagar Medical College. He completed MBBS and internship, starting as a Medical Officer at Sir T General Hospital on November 27, 2025. His story inspires on overcoming discrimination.
Early life
Ganesh Baraiya Born in 2000 in Gorkhi village, Bhavnagar district, Gujarat, to Koli caste farmer Viththalbhai Baraiya and Devuben Baraiya. Eighth of nine siblings (seven sisters, one younger brother) in a Baraiya Koli family living in a house. He Born normal, but at age 4, growth hormone deficiency caused disproportionate head growth and dwarfism (72% locomotor disability, final height 3 feet). At age of 10, a circus offered Rs 5 lakh to "buy" him but father refused and escorted him to school daily for protection. Excelled academically despite ridicule; primary education in village school, scored 87% in Class 12, aspired to medicine from childhood.
Education & Medical journey
- Education: Primary in village school, high school at Neelkanth Vidyapeeth, Talaja (87% in Class 12). He cleared NEET 2018 (233 marks) under disabled quota.
- Medical: MCI denied MBBS admission due to height, he lost case in Gujarat HC, won SC in 2019. Joined Bhavnagar Medical College in 2019, completed MBBS and internship despite challenges (extra exam time, assistance). Started as Medical Officer, Sir T General Hospital, Nov 27, 2025. Aspires to paediatrics, dermatology, or radiology.
