Augustine Koli

The Augustine Koli was an Indian freedom fighter and social activist. He was born in a Koli family with Christian faith on January 11, 1921, in Uttan, Maharashtra, he joined the independence movement in 1940, inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, and took part in the Salt Satyagraha and Quit India Movement in 1942. After independence, he taught at a local school, served as sarpanch of Uttan village for 17 years starting in 1954, and worked on community development, including training youth for employment. He passed away on January 30, 2022, at age 101.

Augustine Koli was Railway employee at Bombay-Baroda Railways (pre-1940); teacher at St. Joseph School, Uttan (post-independence). Augustine Koli was Elected Sarpanch of Uttan village in 1954 and served continuously for 17 years until 1971. Advocated for equal pensions among freedom fighters post-independence.

Augustine Koli Participated actively in several movements after joining the freedom struggle in 1940, including undercover operations in Dahisar, Borivali, and Panju Island near Vasai.

In 1942 Augustine Koli Participated actively in Salt Satyagraha and Quit India Movement at Gowalia Tank Maidan (August Kranti Maidan).
