Nathorat Koli | Nag Thorat Koli | Nathorat

The Nag Thorat, (often written in history as Nathorat Koli), was the founder and Koli king of the Dadra and Nagar Haveli Island and the Daman and Diu Island. King Nathorat Koli belonged to the Thorat clan (Gotra, Kul, Kutumb, Vansh) of the Koli caste. Many other Koli Sardars also ruled the Dadra and Nagar Haveli Islands, but all Koli Sardars recognized Nathorat Koli Thorat as their lord, and the Nathorat Koli ruled over all the Koli Sardars of Dadra and Nagar Haveli island and collected taxes from them. During the reign of Raja Nathorat, the Kolis were renowned for piracy, plundering, looting, plundering ships and people passing through the Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli islands.

In 1260 (some historical books mention 1262, while others list 1260), a servant named Ram Singh began deceive the Koli King Nathorat to other Koli chieftains, leading to a growing rift between Koli Raja Nathorat and the other Koli Sardar. However, none of the Koli Sardar dared to speak out against Nathorat directly. The support of other Koli chieftains for Nathorat was waning. In late 1260, a servant named Ram Singh, in collusion with bandits, thieves, and power-hungry individuals, treacherously murdered Koli King Nathorat and seized control of the Koli kingdom of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. Ram Singh later made Aseri Fort (Aserta Fort) his seat.
