Manya Koli

The Manya Koli was a Koli Nayak (Koli Naik) of the 1857 War of Independence. He was born in Harsol town, Peth Jagir, in the Nashik district of Maharashtra. In December 1857, under the leadership of Bhagwantrao Nilkanthrao Koli Dalvi, the Koli king of Peth Jagir (Nashik), Manya Koli took up arms against the British East India Company.

Led by the Koli king Bhagwantrao Nilkanthrao Dalvi Koli, Manya Koli attacked Harsol town and on December 6, captured the British Malatdar and British East India Company soldiers, set fire to the Malatdar's office, and burned all the documents.

The British East India Company sent British troops to suppress the Koli rebellion. A battle broke out between Koli revolutionaries and the British army in Harsol town, Peth Jagir. The British army captured Manya Koli and 14 other Koli revolutionaries and sent them to the Andaman Islands to prevent the Koli revolutionaries from attempting to free them.

Koli revolutionary Manya Koli was hanged on 9 January 1858 for waging war against the British East India Company, attacking Harsol town, beating and imprisoning the British Mamlatdar.
