| Ghed Vistar: Ancient kingdom of Ghediya Kolis |
The
Ghed Vistar (also known as
Ghed Kshetra,
Ghed Area and
Ghed Pradesh) was an ancient
Koli region in
Gujarat. Ghed Vistar was ruled by the
Kolis, and the Koli kings of Ghed Vistar were known as
Ghediya Kolis (
Ghedia Koli). Ghed Vistar was spread across the
Porbandar and
Junagadh districts of present-day
Saurashtra, and even today, Junagadh and Porbandar have the largest Ghediya Kolis population. In Gujarati, Ghed means "
Triangular Land At The Mouth Of A River," which is called
Delta in English. The Ghediya Kolis of Ghed Vistar were agriculturist and depended on agriculture for their livelihood.
Chickpeas are the most cultivated crop in Ghed Vistar in Saurashtra, Gujarat.
