The Gujarat Kshatriya Mahasabha , or Guzerat Chhatriya Mahasubha was was a social and political organization started by former Bhartiya Janata Party's Gujarat State president and a Koli elite Shankarsinh Vaghela to target the mass Koli base or Kshatriya Koli supporters of Indian National Congress party in 1980s.
The Gujarat Kshatriya Mahasabha, or GKM mostly joined by Patanvadia Kolis, Baria Kolis and Thakor Kolis of North Gujarat. the word Kshatriya was used for Koli caste which was 24% of the total population of Gujarat and accepted as Kshatriya by other castes but not by upper Rajputs of the state.
Impacts
- Because of Gujarat Kshatriya Mahasabha, The Koli Kshatriyas of Gujarat Kshatriya Sabha 1950's Kolis joined The GKM and weaked the GKS.
- The Kshatriya status of Koli caste was ignored by Rajputs after down of Gujarat Kshatriya Mahasabha and weaked organisation Gujarat Kshatriya Sabha 1950.
- The marital relationships between Koli Kshatriyas and Rajputs were abandoned after fall of Gujarat Kshatriya Mahasabha. During the reign of Gujarat Kshatriya Sabha 1950, there were a large number of marriages between Koli Kshatriyas and Rajputs. The Koli elites and rich section of Kolis married with poor or lower Rajput girls but always Kolis gave the dowry to poor or lower Rajputs for making the relationship with Rajputs and to be accepted as Kshatriya by Rajputs.
- Many of Koli Kshatriyas leaves the Koli caste status to secure the Kshatriya status and became Rajput or mixed in Rajputs of Gujarat.
- Some of the Kolis were not able to mixed in Rajputs so they made their caste as a seperate caste from Kolis as Patanvadia Kshatriya, Baria Kshatriya and Thakor Kshatriya and Khant Kshatriya because they not secured their richness and elite statu and were considered inferior to Rajputs.
